Wairau group vows to continue to fight scheme

11:05 am on 30 December 2010

A group battling Trustpower's hydroelectric scheme in Wairau Valley in Marlborough says it will fight on, even though a court has approved the scheme.

Save the Wairau says it will not appeal against the Environment Court's decision because it has to do so on a point of law, not an ecological argument.

However, chairman Ron Tannock says Transpower will not find the going easy as it still has many approvals and permissions to get before work can begin.

Mr Tannock estimates Save the Wairau has already spent more than $100,000 fighting the scheme.
