PM makes slight concession on public holidays

Mr Key has previously dismissed any change as unworkable, but now says he'd be willing to take advice on how it could work.

He warns there will be no change in time for the two holidays New Zealanders will miss out on this year; Waitangi Day which falls on the weekend, and Anzac Day which coincides with Easter Monday.

Labour MP Grant Robertson wants the law changed so there would still be commemorations on the days themselves, and people would also get their day off.

The Returned and Services Association says Anzac Day should remain special, and as many people as possible should be able to attend commemoration events.
