New Zealand cricketer Tim Southee has been cleared of any inappropriate behaviour with a female passenger during a flight to the World Cup.

The team flew out of Auckland on Tuesday night for the tournament which is being played in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

New Zealand Cricket on Wednesday refused to give details about the incident on a flight from Sydney to Dubai.

However, team manager Dave Currie investigated the matter during a stopover in Dubai following a complaint about the bowler's behaviour.

Currie says Southee met a female passenger and spent some time with her.

However, after speaking with the player and other team members, Currie says he is confident that nothing inappropriate happened.

The team is flying to India for the tournament and is due to arrive in Mumbai later on Wednesday.

The World Cup starts on 19 February.
