Police in Christchurch have charged a woman with attempted murder, after she and two children in her company were taken to hospital with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

Officers were called to a Riccarton address at about 1am on Saturday where they found the 30-year-old woman, along with a five and a seven-year-old.

The woman was arrested after being released from Christchurch hospital on Saturday morning.

The two children are recovering well and are expected to be discharged from hospital on Saturday, and put in the care of relatives.

Police have been examining the scene and will be speaking to neighbours and associates of the woman.

No one else is being sought in connection with the charges.

The woman who is in custody in the Christchurch central police station will appear in the Rangiora District Court on Monday on two counts of attempted murder.
