6:01 pm on 4 May 2011

A jury will resume its deliberations on Thursday morning in the case of a former national figure accused of indecently assaulting a girl in Nelson.

The man, whose name is suppressed, has denied three charges during a trial in the Nelson District Court.

The jury retired for 90 minutes before telling the judge it could not reach its verdict on Wednesday.

The Crown alleges the man assaulted the girl indecently once in the lounge room of a house in Nelson and twice in her bedroom on 30 Decemer 2009.

The defence has told the jury the girl's evidence is unreliable and that his client is innocent.
