Greens ambitious for higher party vote

The Green Party holds its annual meeting in Auckland this weekend confident it is now the third party of New Zealand politics.

But co-leader Russel Norman is more ambitious, saying the party has to push its party vote above 10% in the general election.

The Electoral Commission on Wednesday allocated the Green Party $300,000 to spend on television and radio advertising - almost double the $160,000 allocated to each of the Maori and ACT Parties.

The Greens take this as another sign of their growing political stature, even though the party is yet to be formally part of any coalition government.

Dr Norman says the Greens shouldn't be satisfied with their current level of support, and need to lift their party vote.
