Dollar making longer overseas trips more affordable

One of New Zealand's biggest travel agencies says the soaring dollar means people are holidaying further abroad and spending longer overseas.

The kiwi reached US82.6 cents two weeks ago - the highest it has been against the US dollar since 1985.

House of Travel says the number of people travelling to Britain in April jumped 10% compared with the same month last year.

About 27% more people visited Vietnam and about 3% more took trips to the US and Canada.

House of Travel retail director Brent Thomas says people are also staying at more expensive hotels and adding extra luxuries because their money is going further.
