A new chief executive has started at Canterbury Regional Council.
Bill Bayfield, who led Bay of Plenty Regional Council, has replaced Dr Bryan Jenkins.
Elected representatives were dismissed by the Government last year and replaced by Commissioners.
Dame Margaret Bazley says Mr Bayfield will provide valuable leadership during an important time in management of the region's resources.
Dr Jenkins has taken up a position with the Waterways Centre for Freshwater Research.
