Rail freight services south of Christchurch were delayed on Friday after two trucks crashed on a railway line near Dunsandel.

Christchurch police say the trucks crashed just after 7.30am on Sheats Road, which crosses both the main south railway line and State Highway 1.

St John Ambulance says two people were taken to Christchurch Hospital, one with moderate injuries, the other with minor injuries.

KiwiRail says some freight services have been delayed but no passenger services have been affected.

Traffic on SH1 was not disrupted.
