Northland police have begun a homicide investigation after the victim of a serious assault died.
Sonny Werahiko Perene Taylor, 53, died in Whangarei Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
Police had found him unconscious at a home in Kaitaia on Tuesday morning.
A 31-year-old man has been charged with assault.
