Fine and frosty week forecast

6:13 pm on 20 August 2011

In the wake of the weather fronts that brought snow to many parts of the country, MetService says the coming week will bring mostly fine but frosty weather.

The forecast is for a slow-moving anticyclone in the Tasman Sea extending a ridge of high pressure onto northern and central areas for much of the week.

MetService forecaster Oliver Druce says there'll be plenty of sunshine, but temperatures will drop below zero overnight nearly everywhere.

"Especially through Canterbury, Otago, Southland, there will be severe frosts in some inland places."

Mr Druce says from midweek there are likely to be showers and some rain in the west and south of the South Island.
