Baby wipe brands removed from sale

Two supermarket chains have pulled several brands of baby wipes off their shelves after they were found to contain a banned preservative that can cause skin allergies.

Progressive Enterprises and Foodstuffs have removed the brands Precious Flushable, Woolworths Select and Home Brand because they contain iodopropynyl butylcarbamate.

IPBC can cause moderate dermatitis and skin rashes.

Sulco, a company that has been importing the Precious Flushable brand for four years, says it had no idea until two days ago the wipes contained IPBC.

Progressive Enterprises is investigating how the products ended up on its shelves.

The Silk brand has also been withdrawn because its packaging incorrectly says it contains IPBC.
