Falling tree kills forestry worker

A forestry worker has been killed in an accident in the Wharerata forest south of Gisborne.

The 34-year-old was struck by a falling pine at about midday.

A rescue helicopter from Gisborne flew a St John paramedic team into the forest, but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A health and safety inquiry into the death is under way.
