Single council raised as discussion topic

2:12 pm on 4 November 2011

A group of Wellington Regional Council members has written a report promoting the establishment of a single council for the region - though not one like Auckland Council.

The report suggests one council with 11 members, as well as smaller community councils, could be running in two years.

Regional council chair Fran Wilde says decision-making would be kept local under this model.

She says the report is not a fixed proposal but is intended to stimulate debate.
