Rare chance to bike over Auckland Harbour Bridge

6:27 am on 11 December 2011

Cyclists have a rare opportunity to ride across Auckland's Harbour Bridge on Sunday morning.

Up to 9000 riders will take part in a series of rides ranging from two kilometres to 110 kilometres.

Cyclists will ride the clip-on lanes on the outside of the bridge.

Almost 200 stationary buses will line the road from the bridge to the northern busway on the North Shore, to protect the riders from other motorists.

The Transport Agency agreed to the ride after a cycle protest in 2009 in which about 2000 cyclists illegally crossed the bridge.
