A forestry worker has been airlifted to Waikato Hospital, after being pinned under the arm of a crane for more than six hours in a forest near Taupo.
The man, believed to be in his late 40s, was working on a self-loading machine, when the incident happened about 3am on Thursday.
He was discovered by forestry contractors just after 9am, still pinned in the machine.
A St John specalist paramedic in Taupo says they had to call in a second crane to help free the man.
Greame Harvey says the man has serious crush injuries to his right hip and leg, and will have surgery at Waikato Hospital.
