Vanuatu MPs postpone no confidence vote after failing to meet quorum

10:52 am on 24 February 2014

A motion of no confidence in the government of Vanuatu's Prime Minister Moana Carcasses has been postponed after a quorum was not reached this morning.

The vote was still in order overnight and was expected to be debated in parliament today, but Radio Vanuatu reports only three Government MPs had joined the 20 Opposition MPs, leaving the group short of the 27 it boasted it had last week.

The group had selected Vanuatu Republican Party Leader and MP for Santo Rural, Marcellino Pipite as the most senior MP and the one to take the post of Prime Minister had the vote succeeded.

Radio Vanuatu reports the Parliament will now sit on Thursday morning.
