Deported PNG vice chancellor very keen to return

An educationalist at the centre of a lengthy dispute which saw him deported from Papua New Guinea last year says he is keen to return, but an employment visa is yet to be issued.

Dr Albert Schram was appointed vice chancellor at Lae's University of Technology in 2012 and immediately won over students with his management style.

But he ran afoul of some in the university's council and was deported a year ago.

This sparked student protests which now centre on a class boycott.

Dr Schram, who is presently an adjunct professor at James Cook University in Cairns, says Unitech's chancellor and other staff organisations there have all confirmed they want him to return and he is trying very hard to go back.

"But I have to go back in a legal manner. Otherwise I will expose myself again to other lawsuits. There has been so much frivolous and vexatious litigation now about this issue now that we really do not want to add to that."
