The logistics manager for Save the Children in Solomon Islands, Graham Kenna, says he expects the death toll from 3 days of continuous rain on Guadalcanal to increase dramatically.
He says the official toll is now 8 but another 40 people are missing.
Hundreds of homes have been lost and an estimated 10 thousand people are in evacuation shelters following the flooding.
Mr Kenna says the impact on Honiara and Guadalcanal is huge with up to half the population of about 200 thousand affected in one way or another.
"The infrastructure is gradually being destroyed. Two bridges that go into Chinatown - one of them has washed away yesterday, the other one is about to collapse into the river. Once that second bridge goes into the river, we will have no way of getting into the airport and the town or the city will be effectively cut in half."
That is Graham Kenna of Save the Children in Solomon Islands who says the rain doesn't look like easing up while the Met Service has indicated the low could intensify and become a cyclone.
