CNMI mayor wants ports master plan

The mayor of Tinian in the Northern Marianas, Ray Dela Cruz, is urging the development of long-term transportation plans for both the civilian and the military communities on the island as the U.S. military looks to expand its operations there.

He says the logistics requirements for operation of the ranges and support requirements for an average of 1,000 personnel on Tinian require the military development of the seaport and airport.

Mr Dela Cruz says seaport and airport development provides a unique opportunity to leverage the U.S. Department of Defense's military improvements into civilian improvements that will benefit all the territory.

The mayor says a master plan will ensure that CNMI's equities are fully protected with the impending military development.
