EU hands over waste gear to Tuvalu

The European Commissioner for Development has handed over a million dollars worth of waste management equipment to the government of Tuvalu.

At a ceremony of Thursday, the commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, saw the handover of excavators, loaders, tractors, trailers, a utility vehicle, vegetation chipper, metal bailer and metal cutting saws as well as storage bins for medical waste and oil.

Mr Piebalgs says the equipment will help increase the quality and efficiency of waste services of Funafuti and outer islands which will have flow on effects for the wider population of Tuvalu.

The 1.5 million US dollar project is being implemented by the European company, Unit Export Limited.
