The International Monetary Fund says the Tonga economy is expected to grow by over 3 percent next year after a slight pick up this year on the low growth of recent years.

A senior economist with the IMF, Jookyung Ree, has told a conference in Tonga that the economy appears to be rebounding.

Radio Tonga reports the economist him saying expected development in sectors such as agriculture, along with reconstruction from Cyclone Ian and the preparation for the 2019 South Pacific Games will drive the growth.
