A tourism exchange in Auckland later this month has been boosted by support from key airlines.

Air New Zealand and Fiji Airways have both thrown their support behind the South Pacific Tourism Exchange in Auckland.

The event was organised after the annual Bula Tourism Exchange in Fiji, also scheduled for May, was cancelled last year.

The Fiji Tourism Expo, which replaced the Bula event, was held in Nadi last week.

The CEO of SPTO, Ilisoni Vuidreketi, says the airlines will help bring key buyers and sellers to the inaugural event.

Wholesalers from around the world including North America, China, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand are due to attend, and 16 Pacific Island countries will be represented.

Mr Vuidreketi has said the event is not tied to New Zealand and could be held in the islands in future years.
