Niue morgue concern dismissed

4:54 pm on 28 May 2014

Niue's top health official, Bob Talagi, says the island's morgue can function despite some issues with its refrigeration system.

His comment comes after the burial of a local woman at the weekend just 24 hours after she died and the flying of the body of a tourist back to New Zealand this afternoon after he had died in the Matavai Hotel last night .

There have been reports from the island that the morgue has broken down but Mr Talagi says, while they are waiting on parts from overseas, they can cope.

The Minister of Health Joan Viliamu could not be reached.
