Telikom PNG Limited has announced its acquisition of one of Papua New Guinea's leading internet service providers, Datec PNG Limited.
Datec, which is also one of PNG's largest ICT system integrators, is a subsidiary of Steamships Trading Company.
The Post Courier reports that the purchase is subject to regulatory approvals.
The Chairman of Telikom Mahesh Patel says the Datec acquisition is important for Telikom as it embarks on restructuring its communications business towards retail while its wholesale business is being transferred to Dataco Ltd
He says the Datec move comes after Telikom was awarded exclusive rights to provide telecommunications services for the 2015 Pacific Games.
