American Samoa Govt facing income slump

4:14 pm on 13 June 2014

The American Samoa Government is behind in its revenue collection, with a deficit of up to 14 million US dollars projected for the current fiscal year.

The Government had projected it would collect just over 105 million US dollars in taxes, fees and other revenue this financial year.

But in the first 6 months only 42 million has come in and the Government estimates it will have a shortfall of 14 million dollars at the end of the fiscal year.

The bulk of that is excise tax with 7 million dollars less now expected.
