Sport: Former Fiji captain hails Nadolo form

10:11 am on 21 June 2014

The former Flying Fijians captain Deacon Manu says Nemani Nadolo has been a big factor in the team's impressive run of results over the past year.

The 26 year-old has crossed for tries in wins over Italy and Tonga this month and is expected to be a key strike weapon in today's must-win Pacific Nations Cup clash against Samoa in Suva.

Deacon Manu captained Fiji when Nadolo made his debut four years ago and says since coming back into the team last year he's just got better and better.

"I think last year in the PNC we saw a big change in him. He was out on the wing [and] they moved him up to centre and just told him to run straight and hard, and that's what he did. The Flying Fijians were fortunate enough to win that tournament last year and he was a key cog in that wheel to winning. He's a good example to people that you've got to keep trying: he was at the Waratahs, he over in the UK and France [and] none of those worked out, but it's certainly working out at the Crusaders this time."

The winner of today's match will play Japan in later this year in the Pacific Nations Cup final.
