Sport: 'Ikale Tahi coach laments lack of consistency

The 'Ikale Tahi coach Mana Otai says his team must be more consistent going forward if they want to lift their world ranking and be competitive at next year's Rugby World Cup.

Tonga failed to win a match in this year's Pacific Nations Cup, drawing with Samoa in Apia and thrashed by Fiji in Lautoka.

They rounded off the June window with a comfortable 36-14 victory over a Pacific Barbarians selection in Auckland on Sunday.

But Otai says all in all it's been a frustrating few weeks.

"I thought after we drew with Samoa, which is a game we let go, and to lose the way we did to Fiji - we just never seemed to be in the game - was disappointing and I guess it will become an actual mistake or failure if we don't learn from it going forward and I think that probably was the best thing that came out of the whole June window was that you know next year or from here on in you can't afford to come away with a game that you should have won and to have one week perform reasonably well and a total different team on the following week, you can't have that in test level".
