A police officer in American Samoa has been jailed for 90 days in connection with the assault of an escaped inmate last November.
A 15-year police veteran, Siavana Nuusila, was convicted by a jury last month on third degree assault and public peace disturbance charges.
He was convicted of kicking a handcuffed inmate, who was on the ground, following an escape.
District Court Judge Elvis Patea told Nuusila his actions were unprofessional and had given a negative picture of the good work of other police officers.
