More time to check Solomon Islands voters list

7:51 am on 7 August 2014

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission has given registered voters more time to check that their names are on the Provisional Voters List.

This will given allow them time to lodge claims of Omission or Objection up until the extended period of until August 11.

The Chief Electoral Officer, Polycarp Haununu, says there were some small delays in getting the lists to some more remote areas.

He says it's important that everyone gets a chance to check their name so the Commison has acted swiftly and extended the Omissions and Objections period.

Mr Haununu says the process is going well and registration officers in the field are reporting that good numbers of people are turning out to check their names.

The Provisional Voters Lists will remain in all Voter Registration Centres and SIEC Registration Officers will remain in the field until August 11.
