Fiji Women's Crisis Centre congratulates Dame Meg Taylor

The Fiji Women's Crisis Centre says it hopes the appointment of a woman as the next Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat will inspire other Pacific organisations to follow.

Papua New Guinea's Dame Meg Taylor is the first woman to be appointed to head the Forum and will replace Tuiloma Neroni Slade who has held the post for the past six years.

The centre's coordinator, Shamima Ali, says Dame Meg's appointment is an historic move that will inspire Pacific women.

Ms Ali says capable and deserving women are often overlooked in favour of men for leadership roles, but the Forum is setting a good example for other institutions to follow.
