Sport: Fiji Under 20s make good first impression on Farina

The former Australia and Papua New Guinea football coach Frank Farina says the early signs are good after spending some time with the Fiji Under 20s team.

Farina has joined the Fiji coaching staff as the team builds up to their debut World Cup appearance next year.

He is working as a technical advisor to head coach Ravinesh Kumar and spent last week with the team on the training pitch.

Farina says the squad has a lot of promise.

"It's a talented young team - obviously still learning and gaining experience but they did well to qualify. There's certainly talent there and Fiji sides have always been up there physically, so they're not going to be left wanting on that front either, so first impressions are pretty good".

Frank Farina says the Fiji team plans to spend about 10 days in Australia before travelling to New Zealand to compete in the OFC Presidents Cup tournament in November.
