Sport: PNG cricketers staying positive

10:26 am on 27 September 2014

The Papua New Guinea cricketers are keeping upbeat despite a losing start to the South Australian Premier League.

The Barramundi's suffered back to back defeats last weekend and face more two crunch matches over the next two days.

Vinnie Wylie reports.

"PNG lost their first 50-over match against the Eastern Edge by five wickets and the second against the Western Grit by 78 runs. It was their third straight defeat in the one-day game, after being outclassed by the World Cup-bound United Arab Emirates in Darwin. Barramundi's captain Chris Amini says while they have been competitive in all of their matches the team needs to show consistency for the full 100 overs. Injuries haven't helped their cause with both opening batsmen Lega Siaka and pace bowler Pipi Raho unavailable. Charles Amini says despite these challenges the feeling in the camp is still positive. PNG take on the Northern Mavericks later today before backing up against the Southern Force tomorrow."
