Sport: Fiji league team in dark about weekend opponent

11:55 am on 17 October 2014

The Fiji Rugby League Coach admits his team goes into this week's international against Lebanon a little in the dark.

Rick Stone, who will coach the Newcastle Knights next season, says not much is known about his opposition for this Sunday.

However Stone does believe they will be competitive.

"There's plenty of players sprinkled around in the NRL with Lebanese heritage and if you can go back to your grandparents as heritage well no doubt they're gonna come up with some handy players. I know a young player, James Elias who played here with Newcastle is definitely going down to have a game with them. Darren Maroun's the coach and he's been coaching them for a couple of years and I'm sure he's gonna assemble a really strong squad."

Wes Naiqama will lead the Fiji Bati at Remondis Stadium in match that Stone hopes will help create a foundation for future world cup success.
