Reports from Vanuatu say Princess Anne will be visiting the country sometime this week on a private trip.

The Vanuatu Daily Post says Princess Anne is expected to be in the country for about a week, but her itinerary has not been revealed.

It will be the first time in 40 years a member of the British royal family has visited Vanuatu after the Queen visited with Prince Philip on the royal yacht Britannia in 1974.

While in the then New Hebrides, the royal couple sailed to Pentecost to view the Pentecost land dive and paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Ifira Island, Graham Kalsakau on whose land Port Vila is situated today.

The royal couple also sailed to the southern island of Aneityum where the Queen went for a swim in the lagoon in a pool which is still called the Queen's Swimming Pool today.
