Sport: Samoan boxer to take part in Super 8

12:26 pm on 28 October 2014

Vaitele Soi will be fighting in the Sky Arena Super 8 promotion.

The Samoan cruiser-weight is undefeated after 22 fights and will join three Australians and two New Zealanders, with two wildcards to be revealed this week for the event.

The Super 8 will be headlined by Shane Cameron and Kali Meehan's heavyweight battle.

Soi's management says he will meet Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi before taking part in the tournament and is expected to receive the backing and blessing of his nation.

Soi hasn't fought in 10 months and his preparation has been very basic but his camp says the format will suit him and he's got a really good chance.

It appears it won't be a one-off appearance either as Soi has signed a long-term deal with Sky Arena, joining promising Kiwi cruiserweight David Aloua .
