Sport: Samoa end league tournament with big loss

12:45 pm on 10 November 2014

The Toa Samoa rugby league side have been bundled out of the Four Nations tournament after the Australian Kangaroos comprehensively thrashed them 44-18 in Wollongong.

Fullback Greg Inglis and Cooper Cronk both scored two tries as the home side ran rampant to set up a meeting with the Kiwis in Wellington this coming Saturday.

Toa Samoa and Brisbane Broncos forward Josh McGuire says the defending champions showed their class.

"A credit to them. They just starved us of the footy in that first half but I thought the boys tried hard and at the end of the day we came here to prove a point and I thought we had a good series. Back to the drawing board and hopefully we get a couple more tests later on in the next year."

McGuire says it was unfortunate that Samoa couldn't win for their many fans that showed up.

"It's crazy eh?! It just shows you how much support the Samoan community has for football and it's only going to get better as the years go on and as we get more competitive."
