The former mayor of Tinian in the Northern Marianas, Ramon Dela Cruz, has filed a lawsuit to force a recount of votes or a re-election after last week's poll.

Mr Dela Cruz is suing the Tinian mayor-elect, Joey San Nicolas, and the CNMI Commonwealth Election Commission.

In his lawsuit, Mr Dela Cruz claims he had a substantial lead in the unofficial count on election night and he went to bed thinking he had won another landslide but woke up to hear that Joey San Nicolas had won by seven votes.
