Pacific Island leaders will look to the French President to take up their case for action on climate change when they meet him today in New Caledonia.
Francois Hollande will attend a meeting with leaders of several Pacific Island states along with the French Foreign Minister.
The Secretariat of the Pacific Community will host the gathering at its Noumea headquarters.
The SPC says the meeting will give Pacific leaders an opportunity to discuss the serious climate change challenge facing the region and its very real impact on the lives of Pacific Islanders.
Leaders of several small Pacific Island states have confirmed they will attend including the President of Kiribati, the Premier of Niue, the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, the President of French Polynesia and the Prime Minister of the Cook Islands.
The event comes nearly a year before France hosts the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris, where a new, universal climate agreement is due to be sealed.
