Prime Minister John Key left for South Korea on Saturday to attend the second Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul.
The summit's objective is to work towards securing nuclear materials and reducing the global threat from nuclear terrorism.
Mr Key says as one of 50 countries invited to take part in the Seoul gathering, New Zealand is committed to playing its part.
He will also meet South Korean president Lee Myung-bak to discuss further strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
Mr Key says one of the aims of his visit will be to make progress in negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement with South Korea.
The summit is being held on Monday and Tuesday. The first in the series was held in Washington in 2010 and the third will be held in 2014 in The Netherlands.
