Real estate students numbers rise - Govt figures

The National Party says there has been a significant increase in the number of people training to become real estate agents.

Figures obtained by the party from the Government show 1968 students were enrolled in real estate sales courses eight years ago.

The statistics show that number grew to more than 10022 in 2005, although last year the number dropped to 8815.

National's tertiary education spokesperson, Paul Hutchison, says the increase was because the Labour Government has not been offering accountability or value for money in the courses it has been funding.

The Minister of Tertiary Education was unavailable to comment.
