Principals' Federation president Paul Drummond says his lobby is frustrated that Prime Minister has done an about-turn by signalling the Government could introduce league tables to rank primary schools.
Prime Minister John Key said on Monday that makes sense to have some sort of table to show parents what schools are achieving under the national standards his Government brought in.
And he declined to rule out the Ministry of Education creating its own league tables.
But Mr Drummond says the national standards are not moderated and therefore not comparable.
The sector must be involved in any discussions about league tables, he says.
Mr Key says the aim of national standards is to get some coherent data for parents to show what schools are achieving in numeracy and literacy.
There is a lot of work being done with the sector about how to represent the data, he says.
