Finance Minister Bill English has announced this year's Budget will be delivered on Thursday 16 May.
Mr English says the Government's plan is aimed at building on the country's growing export markets and the rebuilding of Canterbury to create more jobs and lift incomes.
He has told Parliament's finance and expenditure select committee the Budget will contain the next steps in that programme.
Mr English says while the economy does face difficulties, it is in much better shape than the economies of Europe or the United States.
