Five years after forming the Government, National MPs say the party is well placed to contest next year's general election.
On their fifth anniversary Government MPs are meeting at Premier House in Wellington on Friday to develop new policies for the future.
Finance Minister Bill English says the economy is improving, but National cannot be complacent.
Mr English says the party is also aware that under MMP, elections are always close and governments are decided by margins of only one or two seats.
