Any remote chance the Mana leader Hone Harawira had of making it back into Parliament has been extinguished, with a recount in Te Tai Tokerau actually seeing him lose two votes.

Mr Harawira applied for the recount after losing the Maori seat to Labour's Kelvin Davis by 739 votes on election night.

After the recount, Mr Davis crept ahead two votes, to a total of 9712.

Mr Harawira lost two, falling to 8969.

Mr Harawira applied for the recount on Tuesday, concerned about the number of votes which were discarded and the treatment of Maori voters at polling booths.

District Court Judge, Tom Broadmore, who oversaw the recount, said he would soon issue a further judgement about other matters which have come to his attention.

He said the matters would be of concern to the parties, but would not change the result.
