Devil in the detail of Danish climate deal - Green MP

6:25 am on 11 December 2009

The Green Party says the devil will be in the detail of a leaked Danish compromise deal on climate change.

The Government says New Zealand was consulted during the drafting of document that's shaken the climate conference in Copenhagen.

The leaked document drawn up by a group of industrialised countries has drawn outrage from developing countries and environmentalists.

MP Jeanette Fitzsimons told Morning Report that the document does not have any key dates or figures in it.

She says she thinks the controversy has erupted as some delegates may have seen some of the detail and not be happy about it.

New Zealand Climate Change ambassador Adrian Macey told the programme that New Zealand did not really have any input into the document.

Speaking from Copenhagen, Mr Macey said it's quite normal practice for a host country to work on such a document.

He said the Danish Government has been quite clear that there are a number of document's being worked on by many countries.
