Banks 'not taking Espom for granted'

12:16 pm on 29 April 2011

Former Auckland City mayor John Banks says while polls show he could win the Epsom electorate for ACT, he is not taking it for granted.

Incoming party leader Don Brash has indicated he wants Mr Banks to take over from Rodney Hide as ACT's candidate in Epsom for the November election.

John Banks told Nine to Noon he wants to go back to Parliament as an ACT MP to promote the philosophy, concepts and values that underpin conservative politics.

Mr Banks says if ACT is part of the next coalition Government he wants a role where his views would be heard loud and clear.

He says polls show that he could win the Epsom seat but he knows he will have to do a lot of work in the electorate, and will need to convince voters that what he stands for is worth supporting

John Banks says he still has to convince the ACT party president and board that he is the best qualified candidate for the seat.
