Education Minister Hekia Parata says some educators in south Auckland are already putting their hands up for charter schools.
The Government intends to set them up in Christchurch and south Auckland.
Ms Parata says there's interest in charter schools as a way to lift the low academic achievement of Pacific students.
She says one large Pacific training operator in south Auckland has already asked to be considered as a charter school.
Ms Parata, who is also Pacific Island Affairs Minister, says improving Pacific and Maori educational achievement is her top priority for both portfolios.
