Clifford Bay ferry terminal report due soon

8:03 pm on 11 April 2012

The Government will receive a report on the viability of a ferry terminal at Clifford Bay in the South Island within weeks.

Late last year, official papers released to Radio New Zealand showed job losses in Marlborough if the ferry port moved south from Picton.

The proposal is being investigated because of potential cost savings from faster trips.

The chair of the select committee covering transport says officials will present their report in a matter of weeks.

David Bennett was speaking at a transport forum on Wednesday and says a clearer picture about the steps that may be taken will emerge after that.
