Police in Balclutha are investigating the discovery of the body of a young woman in the town's industrial area on Friday morning.
Senior Sergeant Richard Whitmore says police were alerted at 9am that a body was found at a jetty at View Street, by a person working nearby.
Mr Whitmore says the woman's identity is unknown and police are carrying out initial investigations at the scene.
He says the circumstances in which she was found at this stage are unexplained.
